1. What is SISTAS READ?
SISTAS READ is a Virtual Book Club for Women that focuses on personal, spiritual, and professional growth through reading and studying together.
2. What inspired SISTAS READ Book Club?
SISTAS READ Founder, Lateshia Lane, is a Georgia native and philanthropist at heart. This vision happened as she was hospitalized and fighting a bout with Covid-19. After seeing so many stories on social media of women who feel deprived socially, emotionally, and some physically, she knew that there was a need for a safe platform for women of all shades of melanin to assemble to be inspired and motivated to become better versions of themselves.
3. What are SISTAS that READ?
SISTAS that READ are Women interested in convening with other Women as a part of a supportive and progressive community.
4. What do I need to attend a SISTAS READ Book Club meeting?
You need a copy of the current book or an audio or kindle version of the book, attend weekly Zoom sessions, and be ready to learn, grow, and share with the group.
5. What if I don’t finish the target book section prior to the meeting?
No worries. All participants are encouraged to stay up to date with the chapters; however, even if you have not had a chance to read the current chapter, you are still welcome to attend the session. Most ladies are eager to complete the reading after participating in fruitful discussions.

7. How are books chosen?
Suggestions for new books will be placed on a “Book Ballot” three weeks prior to the conclusion of the current book. The ballot will be open for viewing and voting for one week after it is posted. On the eighth day, votes will be tallied and posted in all group chats (Text, GroupMe, Messenger).
8. How do I vote on a potential book for review?
To receive a Book Ballot, join SISTAS READ, or check in on the GroupMe chat.
9. Where does SISTAS READ meet?
Participants meet in the comfort of their own individual locations. All sessions are virtual unless SISTAS READ is hosting a scheduled event for in-person gathering.
10. What happens during a SISTAS READ virtual ZOOM session?
Each virtual Zoom session is ninety minutes and opens with prayer, and consists of organizational announcements, open discussion, challenges, laughs, life lessons, and closes with the SISTAS READ Affirmation and prayer.
11. What is a Pivotal Message?
A Pivotal Message is a memorable or resonating passage from the book selection. At each meeting, SISTAS are asked to share a quote, passage, or overall take-away from the book. (Keep in mind that this is optional).
12. What are SISTAS Wellness Check-Ins?
Wellness Check-Ins are monthly 45-minute checks that give an opportunity for all participants to virtually connect for a few minutes to help support one another. These meetings are not book based and offer any sisters that may be feeling socially deprived, need to share an experience(s), have food-for-thought questions and/or comments, or just need a virtual hug or encouragement from the other SISTAS.

15. How do I pay the annual fee, and when is it due?
Paying your $60 annual fee is simple and secure—you can do it right through our Venmo or CashApp account when you sign up. And don’t worry about missing your renewal date; we’ve got your back. We’ll send you a friendly reminder each year when it’s time to renew, so you can keep enjoying everything SISTAS READ has to offer without any interruptions.
